Graveyards

While this section may seem a bit morbid there is more to the graveyards in our parish than death. They are at three distinct locations in the parish: Burrane, Molougha and Knockerra. Some people are buried outside the parish particularly in Kilcarroll and Kilrush, due to its proximity.  Inscriptions on flagstones and headstones are a most useful source for the family historian and are a window into the beautiful craftsmanship that no longer exists. Below you will find a taste of the inscriptions and crosses that can be found in the Old and New Burrane and Molougha graveyard dating back over 200 years.

Molougha

Molougha is one of the oldest graveyards in the parish and is special with its small hut like structures that were used for graves. Many from the Knockerra area were buried here before the Knockerra Graveyard was opened.
