Past Times

Participation in sports and pastimes has played an important role in the evolution of this parish. Killimer has produced many accomplished sportspersons in Gaelic football, athletics, equestrian activities and boxing, to name but a few. These pursuits, together with pastimes such as music and dance, have forged a strong bond amongst our people and have been at the heart of the community throughout the ages. Our location in West Clare, with our rural setting and proximity to the shore, offers many opportunities for recreation. Free-play and leisure activities thrived side by side with organised sporting activities in this parish. Great credit is due to generations of local people who have ensured that sporting facilities were provided for the present generation.
