Heritage Day 2024

On the 25th August 2024, we held our second Heritage Day as part of National Heritage week. We invited people to Knockerra hall to experience some of skills and games of the past. It was just fabulous to see so many from all generations and all parts of the parish mingling and catching up.

A special thanks to all our volunteers, some who got little jobs as they came in the door!, we could not have ran the day without you. So much work goes into the background of these things and without lots of help it would have been nothing like it turned out. Our kitchen, food and tea crew in particular (and to the many who dropped in cakes and treats!) who kept us all well fed and full of tea!

Huge thanks to those who brought and displayed items as well as those who came and demonstrated cooking and craft skills. In particular our young exhibitioners who showed fabulous knitting and crochet skills. Different areas were set out where you could learn how to sew, knit, make súgán, bake bread, write with ink, cook on a griddle, make butter and potatoe cakes, play hop scotch, play road bowling, see tilly lights, “put a sock in” the gramophone and explore our old papers amongst other things.

We also finally got to launch and show you our most beautiful Parish patchwork collage that many parishioners were involved in putting together. To everyone involved in that you are all wonderfully talented and we are so appreciative of the time and effort you put into your patch. A particular thanks to Catherine Moloney who put a lot of time into making our vision come true.

Also a huge thank you to Dr Tomás MacConmara who came all the way out to speak to us and to launch our patchwork and to Rita McInerney who gave us funding for the day and who spoke so wonderfully about the importance of Heritage week.
